The Brief Introduction of Hebei University

Hebei University is a key comprehensive university which is co-constructed by Hebei Provincial people’s Government and the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence. It is also the sole University in Hebei Province which is listed in the National Project of Enhancing Comprehensive Power of the Universities in the Midwest.

The predecessor of HBU is Tianjin Business University, which was established by the French Society of Jesus, then it experienced several periods, including Tianjin Industrial and Commercial Institute, Jinggu University, Tianjin Normal Institute and Tianjin Normal University. The name of Hebei University was confirmed in 1960, and it moved to the national historical and cultural city of Baoding in1970.

Presently HBU covers 412 acres, including the main campus, the new campus, the medical campus and etc. HBU has 31 colleges (including 1 independent college——Industrial and Commercial College) with more than 77,000 enrolled students, including44000 full-time students and 33000 adult education students

HBU has gradually formed a coordinated developing system with 12 disciplines, including Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Natural Science, Engineering Science, Agriculture, Medical Science, Management Science, and Arts. Currently, HBU has 7 first- class specialties for doctorate degrees, 4 second-class specialties for doctorate degrees, 39 first-class specialties for master degrees, 9 second-class specialties for master degrees, 21specialties for professional master degrees, 93 bachelor degree majors and 14 associate degree majors.

HBU attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchange. It has established friendly relationships with more than 100 universities, colleges, and other educational institutions overseas. In 2013, HBU-UClan School of Media, Communication, and Creative Industries was approved by the Ministry of Education, and it is the first Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run school in Hebei Province.HBU also established Chinese teaching centers in Russia, Malaysia and other countries, and set up 2 Confucius Institutes in Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Xavier University of Louisiana in USA. More than 3,000 Doctor, Master, Bachelors Degree students andshort-term international students from more than 50 different countries have studied in HBU.

The Training and Research Center for Personnel Study Abroad under the Ministry of Education is set up in HBU. Hundreds of teachers and managerial staff were sent to universities and colleges in America, Canada, Britain, Japan, Malaysia, and other countries, to get advanced academic training or further their study for doctorate degree.
