Opening Ceremony of Mandarin Corner

On 27th of April 2016, Mandarin Corner was officially set up in the library of University Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Pekan Campus. The corner was a joint collaborative effort of Centre for Modern Languages & Human Sciences (CMLHS), Mandarin Language & Culture Centre (MLCC), UMP Library and Mandarin Language Society (MLS). The opening ceremony was officiated by Associate Prof Dr Muhammad Nubli Abd Wahab, Dean of Centre for Modern Languages & Human Sciences (CMLHS). Also present were Ms. Yong Ying Mei (MLCC Director), Tuan Haji Ruslan B. Che Pee (Chief Librarian), Mr. Chen Zhong (Director from Kong Zi Institute, University Malaya), Dr. Jamal Rizal Razali (Head of Foreign Languages Department, Master Hor Chin Sim (Master Calligrapher) and Madam Kang Mei Feng (Advisor of MLS).

In her welcoming speech, Ms Yong Ying Mei thanked Kong Zi Institute of Malaysia for sponsoring more than 100 Mandarin books and DVD for Mandarin Corner and Mr Hor Chin Sim, Master Calligraphy of Malaysia for sponsoring stationaries of calligraphy and his support for MLCC activities.

In the opening speech, Associate Prof Dr Muhammad Nubli Abd Wahab encouraged the students to explore Mandarin and strengthen their knowledge of Mandarin which will be a valuable investment of time and effort in their future career path.

In Mandarin Corner, there were various of reading materials in Chinese and display of the Chinese cultures and history. Among the highlights of the corner were Mandarin Language events in UMP. Besides that “One to one partnership” will be held in Mandarin Corner every Wednesdays where students can learn Mandarin in an easier way.

The launching of Mandarin Corner created a new milestone for the students in learning Chinese. In this multilingual and multiracial community, UMP students have been exposed extensively to the learning of different languages in moulding a competitive graduate.
